Lights, Camera, Education!

Hello everyone, we are María Fuentes Martinez and Miriam Gamuz Gea and we have been the stars this week. We are so exited to present you our work.

We have had to explore “the dark side of text books”, so our work has been explain to our classmates our stance against textbookst through three series of TV advertisements.

First advertisement: And me, I am not important?

There is no single book that approaches all the contents uniformly, it is there is no complete book. In some books a topic is very good, but other raises another topic in a better way, and there are other that have a great activities for other topic. Moreover many historical figures who were important in their time do not appear on textbooks, like Hypatia de Alejandría regarded as the first woman in human history that makes important contributions to the field of mathematics. Given this it is better to have books in the classroom library as reference material. Moreover the didactic approach of textbooks is a battle for students that no one can stand it. Definitely, texts books are so boring.

 Second advertisement: Stop her!

The aim of the Publishers is to get the most benefit at the expense of students, text books are changed every year, and therefore we cannot speak of second-hand books. This happened for many years, my cousin´s books, my cousin is one year older than me, rarely have served me. Publishers do not consider that many families cannot afford to spend 40, 50, 60 Euros in a book.

The books, besides being generalists because they are not adapted to any reality, are only one interpretation of the curriculum and they don´t express any dynamism, they weigh heavily. It's like you have rocks in your backpack, surely you have ever thought: teachers could get all the books I carry in their bag.

We hope you like the videos and you have enjoyed it. See you soon!
